Scouts March On

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer across the District joined forces to celebrate St Georges Day. They paraded through Sevenoaks High Street and then had a church service led by Andrew McClellan at St Nicholas’ church.

Cubs along with Andrew urged Scouts to support the charity “Save the children” a children’s charity dedicated to providing education, food and water across the globe. This year 12th Edenbridge was awarded the Sajo Trophy (Most exciting Beaver Colony). The 1st Braeside Cub Pack was awarded the Mickey Spearey Trophy (Most stimulating Cub pack). The Dudley Barrow Trophy was awarded for the most challenging Scout Troop - 3rd Lambarde Scout Troop. The leader of the troop said “I am very proud of the Scouts and the leadership team for helping us win the award.” The John Lane Trophy was awarded jointing to dedicated Explorer Scouts and leaders - Rauri Field, Eric Barrow and Duncan and Alison Harper. The most improved group was the 10th Weald which was awarded the District Trophy.

Police estimated nine hundred people were part of the parade, either marching or watching from the pavement. A Beaver Scout when interviewed said “Scouting is great” and his favourite activity was “Cooking Marshmallows on the campfire.” Despite the bad weather the ceremony continued. One Cub Scout said “I hope next years parade is half as good as it was this year.”
